Biography and COI Disclosure
Dr. Spilg graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School and completed his geriatric medicine training in the West of Scotland. He completed a master’s degree in clinical leadership at the University of Glasgow Business School before moving to the University of Ottawa in 2015 to join the Division of Geriatric Medicine. He held the position of Vice Chair for Physician Wellness in the Dept of Medicine from 2015-2018 and then Dept of Medicine Research Chair in Physician Wellness from 2018-2024. During the past 10 years in Canada, he has successfully built a research program studying physician wellness. Since 2020, Dr. Spilg has developed a specialist interest in the field of moral suffering in healthcare professionals, reflected through his research and many publications and presentations in this area. In 2023 he received the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine Award for Leadership in Wellness and in 2024, his contribution as a national leader and expert in this field was recognized through his promotion to the rank of Associate Professor.
