By the end of the presentation, the participant will be able to:
1) Identify the overlay between medical diagnoses, somatization and identity formation;
2) Describe societal, cultural and systemic factors contributing to the medicalization of identity; and
3) Discuss collaborative, family-centered and evidence-based approaches to patient care that validate distress while minimizing unnecessary medicalization.
