Details
This interactive presentation begins with a brief history of Hip-Hop which itself is a continuation of a longer genealogy of Black artistic and cultural expression. This history will take us from tap dancing to spoken word. The second act of the presentation is to re-introduce Hip-Hop as social venting, social theorizing and social critic. In this sense, Hip-Hop becomes a historical record, a public health record that might be of interest to health workers; a way to rethink the question of identity. So, bring your hippy self and join us for an informative session no matter your interest or knowledge of Hip-Hop. WORD!
Learning Objectives: 1) Recognize Hip-Hop as a form of social expression, social venting, social critique and social theorizing 2) Identify connections between Hip-Hop culture and health-related issues 3) Apply increased community awareness to support culturally responsive and socially accountable care.
