By the end of this session participants will be able to:
- Identify common causes of uncontrolled hypertension, including poor adherence, lifestyle factors, and secondary hypertension
- Recognize when to suspect and evaluate for secondary causes of hypertension
- Explain the role of lifestyle modification, medication review, and out-of-office blood pressure monitoring in evaluating uncontrolled hypertension
- Review an evidence-based, stepwise approach to reassessing and intensifying antihypertensive therapy.

Biography
Januvi Jegatheswaran completed her medical school at University of Western Ontario. She did her internal medicine and nephrology residency training at University of Ottawa. She is a certified hypertension specialist by the American Heart Association. She has completed a Fellowship in Medical Education Research with the Department of Innovation in Medical Education at University of Ottawa and Masters in Medical Education with University of Dundee. She is the Internal Medicine Sciences Lead and Renal block content expert at the University of Ottawa medical school. Januvi’s research interests are in curriculum development and hypertension management.
