-Explain evidence-based strategies to slow progression of diabetic nephropathy
- Recognize the role and indications for newer agents (e.g., SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists and non-steroidal MRAs) in kidney and cardiovascular protection.

Biography

Dr. Canney is a staff nephrologist at The Ottawa Hospital and clinician-scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. His research interests include optimizing supportive care in patients with glomerular disease, such as cardiovascular risk stratification and novel approaches to blood pressure management. He is also a principal investigator with iNET-CKD, an international collaborative network of chronic kidney disease cohorts.

Biography

Caitlin Hesketh grew up in the Ottawa Valley before attending medical school at McMaster, followed by residency at University of Ottawa. She practices nephrology at the Ottawa Hospital, Cornwall Community Hospital and St. Vincent's. She has been program director of the Ottawa nephrology training program since 2019. Outside of work, she plays competitive ultimate frisbee and spends time with her husband, two young children and two cats.

Biography

Brendan McCormick is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa. He is the medical director of the Home Dialysis Program at the Ottawa Hospital and the medical director of the Kidney Stone Prevention Clinic at the Jindal Kidney Care Centre. Since November 2024 he has been the ORN Provincial Medical Lead for Peritoneal Dialysis. His major clinical interests include peritoneal dialysis, kidney stone prevention and electrolyte disorders.
