PROGRAM LAYOUT

In a rapidly evolving public health landscape, staying informed and proactive is crucial for healthcare professionals. We are excited to present a comprehensive three-part webinar series designed to empower Primary Care Physicians and Allied Health Professionals with the latest strategies and tools to tackle critical public health challenges in Ottawa. Each one-hour session combines didactic teaching and interactive learning to foster an engaging and enriching experience.

1. Ottawa’s Updated Overdose Prevention and Response Strategy, Suicide Prevention and Post Suicide Response October 23, 2024 | 12:00 - 13:00 

Speakers Include: Dr. Vera Etches, Medical Officer of Health, Ottawa Public Health, Benjamin Leikin, Community Health and Wellness Branch, Ottawa Public Health, Dr. Lousie McNaughton-Filon. Regional Supervising Coroner, East Region (Ottawa) 

This session is designed for Primary Care Providers (PCP) to learn about Ottawa’s Overdose Response strategy, and the Mental Health Strategy. There will be a focus on data, tools, resources and how to access local resources. This session will help PCP’s support their patients, regardless of where they present on the spectrum of substance use, suicidal ideations, and post suicide support for loved ones.  

2. Regional Harm Reduction Programs and Services - Including Drug Checking and Mobile Services October 30, 2024 | 12:00 - 13:00 

Speakers Include: Morgan Dalgleish, Harm Reduction Team, Ottawa Public Health & Leanne Paisley, Patient Care Services - Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders

This session focuses on no cost fixed, mobile and virtual Harm Reduction programs, services and resources, including Ottawa based available drug checking services through community partners and OPH. Participants will learn about how and where to refer their patients who use substances to life saving services. 

3. Advancing sexual health services through technology and innovation - GetaKit, Sex it Smart and more! November 6, 2024 | 12:00 - 13:00

Speakers Include: Dr. Nicole Scherling, Sexual Health Services, Ottawa Public Health, Mia McDonald NP, & Lauren Orser RN, Sexual Health Services, Ottawa Public Health

This session focuses on providing comprehensive sexual health services in primary care. Information on self-collected extragenital testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia will be covered, as well as guidance on how to provide appropriate STI testing for men who have sex with men. In addition, we will discuss OPH sexual health programs, including how to obtain no-cost STI treatments at your clinics, STBBI testing services, healthcare provider resources, low cost/no cost contraception, and free condoms - with services provided in a fixed setting, mobile outreach, mailout and more.
