By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize indications for referral of a patient with crystal arthritis to rheumatology
2. Outline goal-directed, urate-lowering therapy (ULT) for a patient with gout including indications to start treatment and how to adjust therapy in patients with chronic kid-ney disease
3. Counsel a patient on available ULT (Allopurinol, Febuxostat) and recognize adverse reactions
4. Discuss management strategies for acute gout flare and gout flare prophylaxis while on ULT
5. Discuss the role of imaging for the diagnosis of gout
