Webinar - Making the most of mentoring

Target Audience:
Mentors, mentees, and all those interested to be mentors or mentored are invited to attend this workshop.


Description: 
Mentoring is known to contribute to the success and academic advancement of faculty members. The Faculty of Medicine encourages our members to promote, foster and participate in formal mentoring programs.  Mentoring and being mentored can be enhanced by formalizing the relationship, setting expectations and develop strategies to ensure positive outcomes for all involved and to avoid the pitfalls that can occur in mentoring relationships.

 

   At the end of the session the participant will be able to:
- Describe the benefits of mentoring for all involved.
- Describe the key elements of a formal mentoring relationship including goal setting, networking, boundary issues.
- Discuss the pitfalls for mentors and mentees including around intellectual property, authorship, collaborations, dissolving a mentoring relationship, and what are the resources for mentors and mentees when concerns arise

 

 

 

This session has been pre-approved for the Teaching Skills Attainment Award.

 Accreditation:
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for 1.5 hours. This program has been reviewed and approved by the University of Ottawa, Office of Continuing Professional Development.  This Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development for up to 1.5 Mainpro+ credits.
