Women’s Heart Health – “Treating the Better Half”
Biography
I am a cardiometabolic specialist who has been practicing general cardiology in Ottawa for the last 13 years, first in the community and now in academia at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. I have a particular interest in women’s heart health, vascular risk factor management, heart failure, and aortic disease. I am the current Director of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute’s Women’s Heart Health Clinic. I also lead the Heart Institute’s Cardiometabolic/Preventive Clinic and Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy Clinic for patients with heart failure, and I am particularly interested in the nuances of gender-specific care for women with these conditions. I am passionate about ongoing medical education and regularly provide education for patients, residents, and colleagues on topics in cardiometabolic medicine, heart failure, and heart health in women. I am an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Ottawa. I am involved in clinic trial research and was on the secondary panel for the 2021 CCS Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection guidelines and the recent 2025 CCS Heart Failure with Non-Reduced Ejection Fraction guidelines.
