Overview
Anne Carlyle
Details
The session will explore how identities and lived experience can enrich and improve planning and design of healthcare spaces – the environments we build. It will also discuss the inherent tensions between a focus on identity, diversity and difference in our current broader culture and our collective responsibility to build places that bridge between/across diverse identities – both individual and cultural – to serve, respect and support everyone including patients, families, communities and health professionals
Reflections are based on a life of practice in design for healthcare facilities of all kinds, from acute care hospitals and long-term care residences, to children’s treatment and community health centres. Project examples will illustrate inspirations and strategies – how to plan and build for spaces that resonate with all of us, and will have a long, sustainable life.
Learning Objectives: Recall approaches and design strategies that improve the quality of healthcare spaces and enhance the well-being of all users
