At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Summarize current evidence linking gut and oral microbiome diversity and composition to a range of mental health outcomes in children and adolescents, including depression, anxiety, and other internalizing and neurodevelopmental disorders.
2. Describe the development, implementation, and preliminary findings of a personalized dietary intervention for adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder, with emphasis on its potential to impact both mental and cardiovascular health.
3. Discuss how demographic factors (age, gender, ethnicity) and dietary patterns influence the microbiome–mental health relationship in youth, and identify implications for future research and targeted intervention strategies.
