Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • BLS is a pre-requisite for all PGME ACLS Provider sessions.
  • Recertification of BLS must be done through the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
  • The cost for BLS is not covered by PGME.

If you currently hold an EXPIRED BLS certification, please complete BOTH options below within 90 days of your ACLS:

1. Visit the Heart and Stroke Foundation website for course offerings in Ottawa and surrounding areas. First Aid Connect also has BLS sessions available in Ottawa with certified Heart and Stroke Foundations instructors.

2. Complete a BLS Prerequisite Challenge quiz online (37 questions). Cost: $10.00.  The quiz can be found by clicking on the following link: https://cpr.heartandstroke.ca/s/article/BLS-Provider-Renewal-Prerequisite-Challenge
Please bring a copy of your Challenge completion and your Heart and Stroke ID card/number to your session.

Please ensure that you have a HSFC BLS course within the last year and that this course is registered on the HSFC Resuscitation Portal website. The HSFC does not accept CPR courses from other agencies, ex Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance. This needs to be done prior to the ACLS course.
