By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Examine the historical progression of Endovascular Therapy (EVT) in the context of stroke management. 2. Illustrate the pivotal contributions of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and emergency department personnel in recognizing, prioritizing, and determining treatment strategies for stroke patients. 3. Review the regional care systems design to bolster efficient decision-making processes in stroke treatment.

Dr. Dylan Blacquiere

Biography

Dr. Dylan Blacquiere is a stroke neurologist at The Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, the medical director of the Champlain Regional Stroke Network, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax in 2007, and trained as a neurology resident and stroke neurology fellow until 2014. Dr. Blacquiere is the incoming co-chair of the advisory board for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Stroke Best Practices Group, and is a member of the Board of the Canadian Stroke Consortium, as well as chair of the Policy and Advocacy Committee. His research and educational interests include quality improvement in stroke care, Telestroke and virtual stroke care, and palliative care in stroke.

Biography

Mathieu Grenier has served as the Deputy Chief of Renfrew County Paramedic Services since January 2017. In this role, he oversees quality improvement, professional standards and community programs for the organization, which is recognized for its commitment to innovation and enhancing care in a small rural setting. Since 2019, Mathieu has supported the stroke network and has been actively involved in shaping future provincial stroke protocols through his participation in CorHealth, Ontario's Large Vessel Occlusion Implementation and Evaluation Subgroup.
